- Your short- and long-term goals
- Your financial picture (sources of income, debts, also called net worth and cash flow)
- Personalized approaches for spending and saving
- Debt strategy

- Special needs, such as saving for travel or eduction
- Gifting strategies
- Planning to leave a legacy
Financial planning is for anyone who wants to make the most of their money and to feel financially secure.
It’s a common misperception that you have to be rich to use a financial advisor or that you have to make a lot of money to need financial planning. At ROI, we’re here to make wealth-building accessible to all.
For younger people, financial planning can help you make smart decisions about student loans, credit, buying a house, and employment benefits like stock options, matching contributions, and more. Small changes now can make a big difference for you in the future.
In mid-life, financial planning can help you take control of your earnings, spending, and saving to open the door for the retirement of your dreams, buying a second home, planning for your child’s education, or caring for an older parent.
During pre-retirement and retirement years, financial plans are crucial for making decisions about when to start taking Social Security and any other retirement benefits, minimizing taxes, spending your savings carefully, funding long-term care, and leaving a legacy of wealth for the next generation, if desired.
The process starts with a free, one-hour consultation with one of our planners to ask questions, and decide if you want to work together.
From there, both you and your financial planner have a few things to do, but it isn’t a long process. You’ll need to gather financial information through your smartphone, printed bank statements, pay stubs, tax returns, and loan or credit card statements. The more organized your financial information is, the faster your part is!
In our next meeting together, we'll continue discussing your goals, relationship with money, and exploring your opportunities and challenges.
How long it takes for your financial planner to present you with a detailed draft depends on how complex your situation is and how much more information they need to collect or discuss with you. In general, you can expect to come back to review your preliminary plan a few weeks after your first meeting.
We'll listen to your feedback, make changes, if needed, and present your final plan in about one more week.
We applaud you for using budgeting apps to monitor your cash flow and finance apps to see your net worth. On the pro side, using apps is a convenient way to keep an eye on your financial health. There are downsides to doing your own financial planning, however.
On the con side, algorithms and AI are limited in their ability when it comes to interpretation, prediction, and anticipation. Plus, they aren’t able to think critically or creatively to craft plans as unique as you are. Another con to doing your own planning is that you can miss important ways to leverage one aspect of your financial life to improve the performance of another part.
Working with an experienced financial planner can help you save money, make better decisions, and provide invaluable advice, information, and knowledge to you along the way.
